There are hotels that promise a view, and then there are hotels where the view is the entire point of the experience. The first time I arrived in the small village of Harads in northern Sweden, I realized very quickly that this was not going to be a normal hotel stay. Instead of a lobby and a long corridor of rooms, I found a forest. Somewhere up there among the pine trees were the rooms.
The place is called Treehotel, and it might be one of the most unusual places to spend a night in Sweden. Each room is suspended high in the forest and designed by a different architect. That means no two rooms look the same. One is a mirrored cube that reflects the forest so perfectly that it almost disappears. Another looks like a giant bird’s nest made from branches. There is even a room shaped like a UFO that seems to hover between the trees.

Some amazing spaces are created up in the trees
Climbing the walkway up to your room feels like stepping into a secret hideaway. Suddenly you are above the forest floor, surrounded by tall pines, with nothing but silence and fresh northern air around you. The rooms themselves are surprisingly comfortable. Scandinavian design is everywhere, simple lines, soft lighting, warm wood, and large windows that make you feel like you are sleeping inside the landscape rather than looking at it from the outside.

A mirrored cube where you can actually stay
Up in the trees, the world becomes quiet in a way that is hard to find anywhere else. If you visit in summer, the northern sky stays light late into the night and the forest glows softly outside your window. In winter the experience changes completely. Snow settles on the branches and the darkness of the Arctic night takes over. If you are lucky, the northern lights might appear above the trees while you watch from your bed.

I really love how quit it is, a good moment to just relax
There is something unexpectedly intimate about the whole experience. The rooms feel secluded, almost like a private retreat hidden in the forest. You wake up to the sound of wind moving through the pines and birds somewhere below you. It is peaceful, slightly surreal, and just a little bit magical.
What I like most about Treehotel is that it does not try to compete with traditional luxury hotels. It offers something different instead. It is playful, creative, and deeply connected to the surrounding nature. You are not just visiting northern Sweden, you are living inside it for a night or two.
And honestly, sleeping in a mirrored cube hanging in a forest is a story you will never get tired of telling.
If this sounds like something for you, have a closer look and maybe go yourself
